The Australian-British singer was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. Alexandra Sherman completed her first music studies in Jerusalem in piano and in Melbourne in vocal performance. After graduating with distinction from the Victorian College of Arts in Melbourne, she continued her vocal studies at the Royal College of Music in London, where she completed her postgraduate studies and opera school. She won several international singing competitions, including the Joan Sutherland and Mietta competitions. In the following years, she continued her training with Prof. Dr. Michail Lanskoi, KS Christa Ludwig, KS Deborah Polaski, and Franco Pagliazzi (Florence). She worked on her operatic repertoire with Sir Richard Bonynge and James Vaughan (La Scala, Milan).

On the international opera stage, the mezzo-soprano has been engaged at several major opera houses, including the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris (Adams, Nixon in China – ARTE production), Opera Australia (Sydney and Melbourne), English National Opera, Welsh and Scottish National Operas, Barbican Centre London, Opera North Leeds/Manchester, and Garsington Opera, where she performed numerous significant roles.

For the Tyrolean Festival in Erl (2014-2015), she was engaged as Erda in Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen” (Das Rheingold/Siegfried) and for Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. From 2016 to 2018, she was a guest artist at the Chemnitz Opera House, where she performed as Pauline in “Pique Dame”.

Alexandra Sherman has given numerous solo concerts and has sung multiple alto roles in oratorios and cantatas across Europe, Great Britain, and Australia, showcasing a broad repertoire. She has also participated in several complete CD and video productions.

The singer has extensive and valuable experience in vocal pedagogy. She has led numerous masterclasses, including in Great Britain (Thames Valley University and University College, London), Australia (Melba Opera Trust, APO Performing Arts Academy Melbourne), South Korea, and China (Henan University).

Since the winter semester 2017/18, she has been teaching voice as a professor at the Anton Rubinstein International Music Academy in Berlin.
