Jan-Henning Drees, born in Greven in 1998, has been playing the trumpet since the age of six and received his first lessons at the music school in Greven. He also received chamber music lessons at the Westphalian School of Music in Münster. Already in his youth, he was a multiple first prize winner at Jugend musiziert, received sponsorship awards and became a scholarship holder of the German Foundation for Musical Life, the Detmold Summer Academy and the International Ensemble Modern Academy. He began his bachelor’s studies in 2018 at Folkwang University of the Arts with Prof. Laura Vukobratovic.
Jan-Henning Drees gained orchestral experience during his studies in the form of the twoyear Orchestra Academy of the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra. He has also made guest appearances with renowned orchestras such as the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the Essen Philharmonic, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne and the West Eastern Divan Orchestra under the direction of Daniel Barenboim.
He gained solo experience during the “Global Trumpet Festival” and the International Maurice André Competition in Paris, among others. He also attended master classes with Reinhold Friedrich, Roman Rindberger, Christian Batzdorf and the “Chosen Vale International Trumpet Seminar”, which shaped his development.
Since 2023 Jan-Henning Drees has been a permanent member of the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra with venues at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. Since the winter semester 2023/2024 he has been a lecturer for trumpet at the Anton Rubinstein International Music Academy.
