Bertold Stecher, born in Schlanders in 1987, grew up in Mals in the Vinschgau Valley in South Tyrol.
At the age of 10, he received his first trumpet lessons at the Obervinschgau Music School with Anton Stecher.
From 2002 to 2007 he attended the music high school in Feldkirch Vorarlberg/Austria, where he graduated with the Abitur.
At the same time, Bertold Stecher studied trumpet at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory with Prof. Lothar Hilbrand and completed his bachelor’s degree with distinction in 2009. This was followed by a master’s degree (IGP – Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy) at the University Mozarteum Salzburg with Prof. Hans Gansch, which he completed in 2012 with the highest grade and the title “Master of Arts”.From 2008 Bertold Stecher gained orchestral experience in various youth orchestras.
He played as solo trumpet in the “EUYO” (European Union Youth Orchestra), the “GMJO” (Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra), the “Schleswig Holstein Music Festival Orchestra”, as well as in the “Vienna Jeunesse Orchestra” and performed in the context of numerous tours with the most famous conductors in important concert halls of the world. The Berlin Philharmonic, Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, Scala di Milano, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, DSO Berlin, RSB Berlin, MDR Leipzig, hr- Sinfonieorchester, WDR Cologne, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Rome, Teatro la Fenice Venice, Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg, Camerata Salzburg, World Orchestra for Peace; Bertold Stecher is also committed to chamber music and ensemble playing and has been a member of the brass formation PROBrass since 2011. During his employment as solo trumpet player in the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento from 2012-2017, he also worked as a lecturer at the Conservatory of Bolzano in addition to his work in the orchestra. At master classes in Ireland, Italy and Austria he was able to pass on his acquired knowledge and extensive experience to students. In addition, Bertold Stecher has been a lecturer for the trumpet major at the HMT Rostock since April 2022.Since 2017, Bertold Stecher has played as solo trumpet in the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. From 1.8.2022 Bertold will take up the position of 2nd trumpet with the Berliner Philharmoniker. From the summer semester of 2022 he will be a lecturer for trumpet at the Anton Rubinstein International Music Academy in Berlin.
