Gernot Scheibe-Matsutani was born on 2 June 1955 in Brandenburg/Havel. In 1960 the family moved to Dublin / Ireland. He attended school up to Intermediate level at Synymount High School, Dublin. At the age of eight he received horn lessons from his father, a horn player of the RTE Concert Orchestra. From 1965 horn lessons with Victor Malirsch, principal horn of the RTE Concert Orchestra. In 1972 he moved to Germany and began studying horn at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Cologne with Professor Erich Penzel.
From 1976 – solo horn player with the Remscheider Symphoniker. Since 1982 – horn player with the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra.
Numerous performances with the “Ensemble Modern” and in Donau-Eschingen until the 90s, Mr. Scheibe-Matsutani is a regular guest in opera houses and fun orchestras also with the instrument Wagner tube.
From the summer semester of 2021, he will be a lecturer for horn at the Anton Rubinstein International Music Academy.
