The International Anton Rubinstein Competition 2022- DOUBLE BASS
24. & 25. September 2022, Dusseldorf
For years, the Anton Rubinstein International Competitions have enjoyed a great response. Especially in times marked by global crises, it is more important than ever to offer young musicians in their training and at the beginning of their career platforms on which they can test their skills and show themselves to the audience. That’s why our competitions have been held online since September 2021 – enabling candidates from all corners of the globe to participate.
Taking place online gives the young participants a particularly large public, as the videos of all finalists are documented on our website and the award winners are announced on our social media platforms.
The juries are composed of lecturers from the Anton Rubinstein International Music Academy and renowned guests.
The competition is organized by International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein, Flingerstr. 1, 40213 Düsseldorf.

Igor Prokopets
Igor Prokopets, born in Minsk, grew up in Tel Aviv, lives in Berlin since 2000. Since April 2021 he is a lecturer of double bass at the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein and at the Beethoven Conservatory. |
Vlado Zatko
Vlado Zatko was born in Slovakia in 1979 and received his first double bass lessons with Jan Krigovsky at the Žilina Conservatory. After only two years, he won 2nd prize at the National Double Bass Competition in Bratislava. This was followed by studies in Germany with Professors Klaus Trumpf and Dorin Marc, and as the last student of Maestro Ovidiu Badila (†). In 2006 he graduated with honors from Klaus Trumpf’s soloist class in Munich. A first permanent engagement took him to the Royal Chapel and Opera Copenhagen in 2006, where he rose to the position of assistant principal bass in 2007. Since October 2008 Vlado Zatko has been 1st solo bassist of the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed as a guest in numerous orchestras, including the Bavarian State Orchestra Munich, the Orchestra of the German Opera Berlin, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg, the Malmö Symfoniorkester, the double bass quartet Bassiona Amorosa and the Berlin Soloist Octet. Since 2012 he has been teaching at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. Vlado Zatko plays the double bass “Acriter et Fideliter” anno 2015 by Marco Nolli from Cremona. Vlado Zatko teaches in double bass at the Anton Rubinstein International Academy of Music. |
Xu Luo
Double bassist Xu Luo is an associate professor of the Orchestral Instruments Department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, a master’s supervisor, and the Deputy Secretary General of the string society of China Music Association. He has won many awards including the 2006 International double bass competition in Bern, Switzerland, and the highest diploma in music performance in Europe – Solistendiplom. He worked for Oper Frankfurt in Germany and was a guest musician of Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich in Switzerland and Southwest Radio Symphony Orchestra in Germany. In recent years, his two CD albums of “Double Bassissimo” and “Super Bass”, and the bass teaching material “37 Orchestra Excerpts ” have been widely praised. Many of the students under his guidance have won good results in many double bass competitions abroad. |

Cui Jingyi, a sophomore in the orchestra department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, studies with Professor Luo Xu, a European bass player. From 2009 to 2015, I studied cello. In 2018, she studied the bass from Chen Hang, the former chief bass player of Hebei Symphony Orchestra. She once won the gold medal in the China Singapore International Music Competition in Hebei, won the gold medal in the general high school group of the Tang Yun Jiahua International Bass Festival for two consecutive years, and was admitted to the Orchestra Department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2021 to learn from the European bass player Luo Xu. |
Riccardo Baiocco, Italien4th prize
Riccardo Baiocco was born in 1998 and studied with Piermario Murelli at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milano, graduating in 2017 with full marks. |
Dmytro Rudyk, Ukraine5th prize
Born on August 3, 2000 in Ukraine. He studied violin at a music school, and from the age of 13 he played the double bass. Since 2015, he studied at the Ternopil Music College. Then, in 2019, he began studying at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. |
Begüm Aslan, Türkei6th prize
Begüm Aslan is a double bass player and a composer living in Berlin. She is studying in Barenboim-Said Akademie with conductor/double bassist Nabil Shehata and composer Zeynep Gedizlioglu. From September 2022, Aslan also continues her bass education with Gunars Upatnieks. She won various awards and competitions. She had the opportunity to work with Daniel Barenboim, Michael Barenboim, Michael Wendeberg, Sennu Laine, Franco Petracchi, Bozo Paradzik, Dorin Marc, Artem Chirkov, Miloslav Gajdos, Dan Styffe and many more. |

Conditions and FAQ
- The International Anton Rubinstein Competition for Double Bass 2022 will be held by the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein in Düsseldorf, Germany from September 24-25, 2022 online.
- Double bassists of all nations can participate in this competition without age limit.
- Two rounds will take place, from which the jury will choose the winners.
- The first round will be completed via video link on YouTube. The results will be announced by email on 08.09.2022.
- The final round will be published on YouTube, FaceBook and/or Instagram on the set dates.
- The finals of the contest will be public on the web.
- A maximum of 16 candidates in total will be admitted to the competition. The International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein in Düsseldorf will decide on the admission of the candidates after the first round.
- The program for the first round and for the finals can be chosen freely and must not exceed 30 minutes.
- The announcement of the results of the competition, as well as the awarding of prizes and certificates will take place on Sunday, 25.09.2022 at about 19:00. Certificates and prizes will be sent to the winners.
- With their registration, the participants allow the organizer to freely dispose of the photo, audio and video recordings made during the event.
- The jury’s decision is final.
- With their registration, the candidates confirm their agreement with the conditions of the competition.
- Deadline for registration is 02.09.2022
Participation fee – 100€, - The participation fee will not be refunded in any case.
