The International Anton Rubinstein Competition 2020 - VIOLA

Korean-New Zealander violist Julie Park holds a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours from the University of Auckland and is currently studying for a Master of Arts in Viola Performance at the Royal Academy of Music with Martin Outram. She is supported by the prestigious ABRSM International Postgraduate Scholarship, the Associated Board of the RSM Scholarship and the Rainer and Doreen Burchett Charitable Foundation Award which provides for full tuition and maintenance. She is also an artist with the Talent Unlimited Foundation from where she is grateful for the support.

As a soloist, Julie was the recipient of the 2014 ‘First in course’ prize for solo performance at the University of Auckland. She was accepted into the 2014 Carl Flesch Akademie International Master Class to receive lessons from Professor Hartmut Rohde and was nominated to perform the J.C Bach Viola Concerto with the Baden Baden Philharmonia Orchestra. Additionally, she received the ‘Ruth-Flesch-Gedachtnispreis’ award/ scholarship selected by the conductor and judges; one of the biggest awards given at this masterclass. As the grand winner of the 2016 Viva La Viola competition and the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s Young Soloist of the year, she performed as a concerto soloist with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra at the Auckland Town Hall. In 2017, she was selected as one of the three finalists to compete in the 2017 University of Auckland Graduation Gala Concerto Competition being the first ever violist to be placed in the competition. She performed with the University of Auckland Symphony Orchestra and was awarded 2nd place in conjunction with the Graduation Gala Development Prize. In August 2018, Julie attended the competitive Curtis Young Artist Summer Program under a substantial scholarship and gained 2nd place in the Curtis Young Artist Summer Program Concerto Competition. She was also chosen to appear and perform on the WRTI Radio Station in Philadelphia during the summer festival. Julie was a semi-finalist and recipient of the inaugural Ian Dunsmore Memorial Juror’s prize at the 2016 Gisborne International Music Competition and a semi-finalist at the Cecil Aronowitz International Viola Competition. She has performed and been praised by numerous renowned artists such as Roberto Diaz, Toby Appel, Hartmut Rohde, Nicola Benedetti, Anthony Marwood, Richard O’Neill, David Takeno, Garth Knox, Ivo-Jan van der Werff, Peter Slowik, Thomas Selditz and Robert McDuffie. Julie has been a recipient of numerous scholarships whilst studying at the University of Auckland in recognition of her performance and academic studies. Scholarships/Prizes include, the Winifred Stiles Viola Prize, Spring Prize for String Player, Sagar-Vandewart Scholarship for String Players, Auckland Centennial Music Festival Scholarship, Winifred Stiles Viola Scholarship, Constance Herbert Memorial Scholarship, 2017 Kate Edger Educational Charitable Trust Vinka Marinovich Awards in Music, Anne Bellam Scholarship, and the John Baros Scholarship in Music.

Mila, geboren im 2004 in Lausanne (CH), beginnt mit 6 Jahren bei Tina Strinning am Konservatorium ihrer Heimatstadt mit dem Bratschenunterricht und tritt ein Jahr später einem Streicherensemble bei, welches traditionnelle Musik verschiedenster Kulturen spielend und tanzend zur Aufführung bringt. Mit 9 integriert sie sie die Structure Musique – Ecol e , die ihr ermöglicht, nebst der Schule intensiv musikalisch gefördert zu werden und fängt parallel zur Bratsche mit dem Klavierunterricht und dem Quartett Spiel an. Seit 2016 ist Mila in der Viola Klasse von Noémie Bialobroda und steht, nebst dem Gymnasium, im 2. Pre-College Jahr. Sie erhält im 2014, 2016 & 2018 jeweils 1. Preise im Finale des Schweizerischen Jugend Musik Wettbewerbes in der Kategorie Viola Solo und ebenso in Kammermusik mit dem Bazar Quartet. Im 2018 gründet sie das Streich Trio 42’, zusammen mit Elena Morruzzi, Violine und Clara Schlotz, Cello. Mila nimmt an mehreren Meisterkursen teil : mit Garth Knox, Gilles Apap, Matthias Buchholz, dem Quatuor Sine Nomine und dem Ensemble Modern aus Frankfurt mit welchem sie, während einer Tournee im Dezember 2019 in Frenswegen, Amsterdam und Antwerpen, ihre Freude und lebhaftes Interesse an der zeitgenössischen Musik vertiefen konnte
