The International Anton Rubinstein Competition for Viola 2019 supports and promotes talented, young musicians, music students, soloists, and prospective orchestral musicians by providing a platform for competition and with its prestigious awards.

Ganna Lysenko, Ukraine

Biography 

Anna Lysenko is one of the upcoming Viola-player of her generation. Born 1990 into a musical family in Lugansk (Ukraine), Anna went through the disciplined education of school-System in her country: music school in Lugansk, Lugansk Regional College of Arts and Culture, where she reached already in her teen ages a junior specialist diploma. Her later education she got in the Kharkiv National University of Arts “Kotlyarevskiy” with professor N. Udovitshenko, going further to the Musical Academy in Zagreb in the class of professor A. Milošev, the famous Polish Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw (class Katarzyna Budnik-Gałązka) and the Maastricht Academy of Music (with professor M. Kugel). At the moment she studies at HEMU (Haute Ecole de Musique de Laussane) in the class of Viola virtuoso Alexander Zemtsov. Beside her official studies with these famous professors she attended also in master-classes of Thomas Riebl, Patrick Judt, Hatto Beyerle, Lars Anders Tomter, Wilfried Strehle and Kim Kashkashian. Anna Lysenko was sucessful in a number of important competition like The national Ukrainian competition, in 2012 with third prize in the Croatian National Competition named after B. Papandopulo (the first and second prize were not awarded) and in 2014 she won the 52nd Croatian National Competition for Students of Music and Dance and also the Golden Award at the 6th International Competition and Festival of Soloists and Chamber Groups «Svirél» (Slovenia). Further she won the second prize at The Premio “Francesco Geminiani» in Verona and third prize in teh 53rd International Music Competition Beethoven’s Hradec. She participated in many master-classes. Her coach was Thomas Riebl, Patrick Judt, Hatto Beyerle, Lars Anders Tomter, Wilfried Strehle and Kim Kashkashian. Scholarships she got from the International Music Academy in the Principality of Liechtenstein, and International Summer Academy ‘Playing for Gold” in Stavanger (Norway). Seeing her talent as an upcoming player, she was invited as a soloist with Lugansk Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kurt Schmidt (Vienna, Austria) and with the chamber orchestra «Zagreb Soloists».

 Conditions and FAQ

  1. The International Anton Rubinstein Violin Competition 2019 is organized by the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein in Dusseldorf and will take place in the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein in Dusseldorf, Germany on May 4th & 5th, 2019.
  2. Violist of all nationalities and ages may take part in this competition.
  3. The competition will take place in two rounds, from which the Jury will decide the winners.
  4. The first round will be completed via video link on YouTube. The results will be announced via email on April 8th, 2019.
  5. The Final will take place in the Concert Hall of the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein, Dusseldorf,Germany.
  6. The Final of competition is open to the public.
  7. A maximum of 20 candidates will be advanced to the final. This decision will be made by the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein, using the recordings from the first round.
  8. The International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein will determine the order in which the competitors perform.
  9. The repertoire for the first round can be freely chosen by the candidate, but must be at least 30 minutes long.
  10. For the final, the candidates must present a program which does not exceed a 30 minute time limit.  The repertoire choice for the final is free, must be performed by memory and may include works from the first round.
  11. The works, which require a preparation of the grand piano, are excluded from the competition.
  12. In the final, the jury has the right to interrupt any performance that exceeds the 30-minute time limit.
  13. The candidates are allowed to bring their own accompanists. However, if need be, and with prior arrangement, the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein will also appoint a pianist for the competitors. The fee for the pianist is 100€, (to be paid after the selection in the Final Round), and includes a 20 minutes rehearsal and the competition performance.
  14. The final results will be announced on Sunday evening, May 5th, 2019 about 7:30 pm.
  15. All participants must be present when the competition results are announced.
  16. With their registration, participants authorize the organizer, i.e. the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein, to use all photo, video and audio material of the competition at its discretion.
  17. The decision of the jury is final and incontestable.
  18. With his or her registration, the candidate agrees to the rules and regulations of the competition.
  19. Registration Deadline: April 1th, 2019
    Registration fee: 75€ before March 1th, 2019 and 100 € thereafter.
  20. The registration fee is non-refundable.
