The International Anton Rubinstein Competition 2020 – CELLO JUNIOR

Competitions are important milestones on the path of young musicians. We set a special emphasis with our junior competitions, which are aimed at children and adolescents aged 8 to 15 who are considering a professional music career. The junior competitions offer them the opportunity to check their skills and level of training, to make new contacts and to gain experience in performing. As an alternative to the prize money, the first prize is a valuable ¾ violoncello on loan for one year.

Biography 

Maria Mafalda Mazzon, born in San Donà di Piave (Italy) in 2004, began to play cello very young, attending courses in Italy and abroad with teacher such as Barutti, Puliafito, Clerici, Kliegel and Böttcher. She won first prizes in several international music competitions. Completed with honors and scholarships the pre-academic certifications at the Conservatory of Rovigo with Maestro Luca Simoncini, now she’s studying at the Pre-College Mozarteum in Salzburg with Barbara Lübke.

Biography 

Simon Dörfler, geboren am 16. September 2005, begann im Alter von drei Jahren, sich mit Musik auseinanderzusetzen. Ab einem Alter von fünf Jahren bekam er Unterricht von Wolfgang Ender an der Wiener Johann Sebastian Bach Musikschule. Seit 2015 ist er in der Klasse von Christophe Pantillon an der Musikschule Wien Margareten. Simon besucht das Musikgymnasium und hat dort und auch außerhalb an zahlreichen Orchesterprojekten teilgenommen. An der Musikschule ist er auch Teil der Begabtenförderung und hat, im Rahmen dieser, regelmäßige Förderwochenenden bei denen er an verschiedenen Workshops teilnimmt. Seit zwei Jahren ist er Teil des „Seidici Corde“ Quartettes und hat mit diesem und auch als Solist zahlreiche Preise sowohl bei nationalen als auch internationalen Wettbewerben erzielt

 Conditions and FAQ

  1. The International Anton Rubinstein Competition  2020 – CELLO JUNIOR is organized by the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein in Düsseldorf and will take place in the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein in Düsseldorf, Germany on April 29.03.2020.
  2. Young cellists all nations may take part in this competition.
  3. The competition will take place in two rounds, from which the Jury will decide the winners.
  4. The first round will be completed via video link on YouTube. The results will be announced via email on February, 28th, 2020.
  5. The final will take place in the Concert Hall of the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein, Germany.
  6. The final of competition is open to the public.
  7. A maximum of 20 candidates will be advanced to the final Round. This decision will be made by the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein, using the recordings from the first round.
  8. The International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein will determine the order in which the competitors perform.
  9. The repertoire for the first round can be freely chosen by the candidate, but must max. 15 minutes long.
  10. For the final, the repertoire can be freely chosen by the candidate, but must be max. 15 minutes long.
  11. The program for the final may include works from the first round.
  12. The works, which require a preparation of the grand piano, are excluded from the competition
  13. The jury has the right to interrupt any performance that exceeds the applicable time limit.
  14. The candidates are allowed to bring their own accompanists. However, if need be, and with prior arrangement, the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein will also appoint a pianist for the competitors. The fee for the pianist is 100€, (to be paid after selection in Final Round), and includes a 20 minutes rehearsal and the competition performance.
  15. The final results will be announced at the end of each competition day on March 29th, 2020 about 6:00 pm..
  16. All participants must be present when the competition results are announced.
  17. With their registration, participants authorize the organizer, i.e. the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein, to use all photo, video and audio material of the competition at its discretion.
  18. The decision of the jury is final and incontestable.
  19. With his or her registration, the candidate agrees to the rules and regulations of the competition.
  20. Registration Deadline: February 20th, 2020
    Registration fee: 75€ before January 20th, 2020 and 100 € thereafter.
  21. The registration fee is non-refundable.
