International Anton Rubinstein Vocal Competition 2021

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

The International Anton Rubinstein Competitions will take on a new form in the future – based on our experiences during the Covid pandemic. For many international applicants, travelling to Germany is only possible with great difficulty and can hardly be reliably planned. At the same time, we realised that a video competition can also be an attractive offer for participants and audience.

We will conduct all our competitions from September 2021 online via video. The final rounds will be published on YouTube, FaceBook and/or Instagram on the respective dates – and of course the names of the three best instrumentalists, singers or ensembles. Certificates and prizes will be sent to the winners.

The Internationale Anton Rubinstein Competitiona supports and promotes talented, young musicians, music students and soloists,  by providing a platform for competition and with its prestigious awards.

The competition is organized by International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein, Flingerstr. 1, 40213 Düsseldorf.

Andrej Lantsov
Biography 

Born in Russia, he graduated from the Kazan State Conservatory in 1990. Already in his second year of studies he was accepted into the Tatarstan State Opera House and sang the leading tenor roles:
Príncipe Igor (Borodin), Demon ( Rubinstein ), Jolanta (Tchaikovsky).

In 1989 he became a diplomate of the International Fyodor Shalyapin Competition. In 1991 he was admitted to the National Budapest Opera House for leading roles of the tenor repertoire.
From 1996 to 2003 he was employed by the “Deutsche Oper am Rhein”. He sang in the best opera houses of Europe : in Hungary, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Brazil, France, Italy, and Germany. He performed the solo part of Otello for the first time in “Theatre du Capitole du Toulouse” with conductor Alain Lombard. In 2001 he was invited by Riccardo Muti to participate in the performance of Otello in La Scala. In 2002 he was invited by Roberto Rizzi Brignoli to perform Otello again.
His stage partners were world famous opera singers such as : Violeta Urmana, Fiorenza Cossotto, Eva Marton, Barbara Frittoli, Olga Gurjakova, Sergej Leiferkus, Renato Bruson, Leo Nucci.
He worked with the best conductors such as: Lamberto Gardelli, Antonello Allemandi, Alain Lombard, Rizzi Brignoli, Riccardo Muti, Ivan Fischer, Rico Saccani.
Andrej Lantsov is a lecturer at the renowned Anton Rubinstein International Music Academy in Düsseldorf.
Alexandra Sherman
Biography 

The Australian-British singer was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. Alexandra Sherman completed her first musical studies in Jerusalem in piano and in Melbourne in voice. After graduating with honors from the Victorian College of Arts in Melbourne, she continued her vocal studies at the Royal College of Music in London, where she completed postgraduate studies and opera school. She won several international singing competitions, including Joan Sutherland and Mietta competitions. In the following years she continued her studies with Prof.Dr.Michail Lanskoi, KS Christa Ludwig, KS Deborah Polaski and Franco Pagliazzi (Florence). She has worked on her opera repertoire with Sir Richard Bonynge and James Vaughan (La Scala, Milan).

On the international opera stage, the mezzo-soprano has been engaged at several important opera houses, including Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris (Adams, Nixon in China – ARTE production), Opera Australia (Sydney and Melbourne), English National Opera, Welsh and Scottish National Operas, Barbican Center London, Opera North Leeds/Manchester, Garsington Opera, where she has been engaged for numerous important roles.
For the 2014-2015 Tyrolean Summer Festival in Erl, she was engaged as Erda in Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen” (Das Rheingold/ Siegfried) and for Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, and for 2016-18 she received a guest engagement at the Chemnitz Opera House as Pauline in “Pique Dame”.
Alexandra Sherman has given numerous solo recitals and sung several alto roles in oratorios and cantatas throughout Europe, the UK and Australia with the wide repertoire range and has participated in several entire CD and video productions including in: Messiah by Handel (ABC Classics, Dir. Anthony Walker); Entre Nous (Offenbach/Opera Rara, Dir David Parry). Solo program (ABC Classics, 2014, with accompaniment by Australian Pianist Laureate Amir Farid.

The singer has a very broad and fruitful experience in the field of vocal pedagogy. She has led several master classes, including in the UK (Thames Valley University and University College, London), Australia (Melba Opera Trust, APO Performing Arts Academy Melbourne), South Korea and China (Henan University).

Since winter semester 2017/18 she teaches voice as a lecturer at the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein in Berlin.
Gabriele Leporatti
Biography 

Italian pianist Gabriele Leporatti actively performs throughout Europe, US and China appearing in many prestigious venues including London’s Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, NDR Hannover, He Luting Hall Shanghai and in festivals such as the Settimane Musicali di Ascona, Festival de Torroella de Montgrí, International Keyboard Institute & Festival New York, Tbilisi Piano Fest;  2016 marks his debut with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales under the baton of Thomas Søndergård.  Gabriele´s schedule in the 2021/22 season includes orchestral appearances with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana as well as solo and chamber music concerts in Europe and abroad.

A keen chamber musician, he has been concertizing with ensembles such as the Trio Suleika and with a variety of internationally renowned soloists; moreover, he regularly appears in duo with his wife Gesa Lücker.  Several of his performances have been broadcasted on radio and television including BBC Radio 3 (UK), SAFm (South Africa), BR Klassik, RBB, SWR 2, WDR 3 (Germany), NPO Radio 4, Avrotros (Netherlands), SRF2 (Switzerland), Rai3 (Italy).

In 2015 he founds Etera Classics – a record label with a distinct authorial connotation and a publishing division dedicated to the promotion of young artists – for which he records his latest three commercial albums.  Gabriele´s discography includes both solo and chamber music recordings – a monographic Brahms CD and one featuring piano works by Schumann and Respighi – along with a quatre-mains album with Fabio Bidini (True Sounds) and one with violist Yuri Bondarev.  Spring 2019 sees the release of his latest solo CD titled “Wien”.

Gabriele´s passionate playing style, full of aesthetic, sensibility and depth, shows the influence of his teachers and mentors Maria Tipo, Fabio Bidini and Joaquin Achucarro.

Currently on faculty at the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein in Dusseldorf, he regularly gives masterclasses and lectures worldwide, with several of his students being prize winners at international piano competitions.  In addition, he is active as an artistic advisor at concert series and festivals and as a jury member in international competitions.

 Conditions and FAQ

  1. The International Anton Rubinstein Vocal Competition 2021 is organized by the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein in Düsseldorf. It will take place online on September 25th & 26th, 2021.
  2. Singers of all ages and all nationalities may participate.
  3. The competition will be conducted in two rounds the winners of which will be decided upon by a jury.
  4. Both rounds will be completed via video link on YouTube. The results of the first round will be announced by email on 25.08.2021.
  5. The final rounds will be published on YouTube, FaceBook and/or Instagram on the respective dates.
  6. The final round of the competition is public on the web.
  7. A maximum of 16 candidates will be admitted to the final round. The selection will be made by the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein based on the recordings of the first round.
  8. In the first and final rounds, candidates may freely choose their programs but the overall performance must not exceed 30 minutes.
  9. The final results of the competition will be announced on Sunday, September 26th, 2021. Certificates and prizes will be sent to the winners.
  10. With their registration, participants authorize the organizer, i.e. the International Music Academy Anton Rubinstein, to use all photo-, video- and audio material of the competition at its discretion.
  11. The decision of the jury is final and incontestable.
  12. With their registration, candidates accept the rules and regulations of the competition.
  13. The registration deadline is August 20th, 2021.
  14. The registration fee is 75.00 Euros if paid before July 20th, 2021 and 100.00 Euros if paid later. Payment must be made into one of the two bank accounts provided and should indicate the full name of the competitor as well as the keyword „Vocal Competition“.
  15. The registration fee is non-refundable.
